Alcorn State has gotten a few tough matchups in their first three outings, and it’s shown on the scoreboard. The Braves opened with a 99-50 loss to UAB, then dropped 88-55 to Houston. Last week against Liberty, Alcorn State fell again, this time 108-65 in another blowout.
In the loss to the Flames, Alcorn State’s Troymain Crosby posted 24 points with five rebounds to lead the team. Also in double-figures for the Braves there were David Pierce with 14 points and two rebounds, and Tyree Corbett with 10 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of play.
Over on the Vanderbilt side, they kicked off the year with consecutive wins, taking out Valparaiso 77-71 and MS Valley State 84-41. Since then it’s been a loss 78-67 to Richmond, a 59-50 win over Radford and an 85-65 blowout loss to Davidson.
In the loss to the Wildcats, Vanderbilt’s top scorer was Scotty Pippen, Jr. with 24 points, three assists and two rebounds. Dylan Disu doubled up on 13 points with 11 boards there, and DJ Harvey managed 12 points with one rebound.
Vanderbilt is 20-8 ATS in their last 28 Sunday games and 3-8 ATS in the last 11 after an ATS loss. The Commodores are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six overall and the under is 9-4 in their last 13 home games.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 1-4 ATS in their last five Sunday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss. Alcorn State is 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Vanderbilt. Granted, Alcorn State has played some pretty good teams in their first three outings, but the Braves just haven’t looked good. They’ve posted a max of 65 points (with two games at 55 or below) on offense, and given up 88 or more in every game so far. Vanderbilt has had some scoring woes themselves (67 or fewer in each of the last three), but I think the Commodores offense can still handle a cover here.
