Northern Arizona got off to an ugly start this season with five straight losses. Those defeats came 96-53 to Arizona, 74-50 to UC Riverside, 91-52 to Colorado State, 80-64 to Eastern Washington and 70-65 to Texas State. The Lumberjacks did get a 68-65 win over Denver in their last outing, though.
In the victory over the Pioneers, Northern Arizona’s Cameron Shelton posted 27 points with five rebounds and two assists to lead the team. Also finishing in double-figures was Jay Green, who posted 15 points, seven rebounds and one assist for the Lumberjacks.
Over on the Gonzaga side, it’s been seven straight wins so far, and only one game has really been close. The Bulldogs kicked off with wins over Kansas, Auburn, West Virginia, Iowa, and Northwest State (twice) in their first six. On Saturday it was another win for Gonzaga 98-75 over Virginia.
In the victory over the Cavaliers, Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert led the team with 32 points, three assists and one rebound. Drew Timme was also in double-figures for the Bulldogs in that one, notching 29 points with eight rebounds and three assists.
Gonzaga is 17-8 ATS in their last 25 Monday games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. The Bulldogs are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games versus a team with a losing road record and the over is 11-5 in their last 16 Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Lumberjacks are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall. Northern Arizona is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog and the under is 4-1 in the last five road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Gonzaga here, but realistically the spread on this one is simply too thick to mess with. In any case, Northern Arizona has looked better in their last two games, losing to Texas State by just five and beating Denver in their last outing. Gonzaga is going to be a different animal however; the Bulldogs have scored 87 or more points in every game and are certain to drill the scoreboard again in this one. Since they can score almost at will, Gonzaga is probably more apt to finish this game with a cover but it’s probably best to stay away.
