UMass Lowell entered the season on a 2-4 clip in their first half-dozen games. The River Hawks beat San Francisco in the opener, then fell to Illinois State, Ohio State and NC State before picking up another win over Vermont. UMass Lowell then fell to the Catamounts in the next game.
In Sunday’s game, UMass Lowell never really got it going, falling behind 43-29 at halftime and limping to a 73-58 loss. Leading the scoring for the River Hawks—and the only one in double-figures—was Obadiah Noel with 30 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Stony Brook side, they started the year at 1-4 with a win over Fairfield alongside losses to Saint Peter’s, St. John’s, Hofstra and Bryant. The Seawolves then went on a win streak, taking out Point Park 83-39 and Binghamton 73-59 and 80-70 in a pair of matchups.
In the victory on Sunday, Stony Brook’s leading scorer was Frankie Policelli with 16 points and four rebounds. Juan Felix Rodriguez managed 13 points with seven assists and four rebounds, and Omar Habwe managed 11 points with four rebounds and one assist.
The Seawolves are 1-7 ATS in their last eight home games and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games overall. Stony Brook is 1-4 ATS in their last five home games versus a team with a losing road record and the under is 7-2 in their last nine home games.
Meanwhile, the River Hawks are 4-2 ATS in their last six road games versus a team with a winning home record and the under is 6-0 in their last five road games versus a team with a winning home record. The under is 5-0 in UMass Lowell’s last five overall and 5-0 in their last five games as an underdog.
PICK: I’m sticking with Stony Brook again in this one. The Seawolves came up with some pretty tepid offensive performances in their first handful of games, like 66 points versus St. John’s and 67 versus Hofstra. Stony Brook started to gain some traction after that however, and posted 72-plus points over each of their next four. In Sunday’s win, the Seawolves really got going. I like them to have another good outing here.
