The Binghamton Bearcats and the UMBC Retrievers meet Monday in college basketball action from UMBC Event Center.
Binghamton enters this one at 0-6 so far this season. As for UMBC, they’re currently 7-1 and riding a seven-game winning streak. This game will be a rematch of Sunday’s game featuring these teams. In that one, UMBC managed a seven-point win. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Binghamton opened up the year with an 0-5 skid in their first quintet of outings. That string of losses began 68-65 to Marist, 65-60 to Marist and 79-65 to Youngstown State. Then it was a pair of losses to Stony Brook 73-59 and 80-70 in games four and five.
In the Sunday game, Binghamton posted a better effort but still lost 74-67. In the defeat, the Bearcats’ leading scorer was Brenton Mills with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists. George Tinsley doubled up there with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Tyler Bertram added 16 points.
Over on the UMBC side, they had better luck over their first seven games, falling to Georgetown in the opener before the winning streak began. The Retrievers took out St. Francis PA 80-65, George Washington 92-81, Delaware 76-61, Coppin State 66-49 and Albany twice 65-64 and 65-60 during that stretch.
In the win on Sunday, it took UMBC a while to pull away from a 29-29 tie at halftime but they pulled it off. Topping the team in scoring was Brandon Horvath with 20 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Keondre Kennedy added 18 points with five rebounds and two assists as well.
The Retrievers are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 16-6 ATS in their last 22 overall. UMBC is 6-3 ATS in their last nine versus a team with a losing straight-up record and the over is 5-1 in their last six home games.
Meanwhile, Binghamton is 4-8-1 ATS in their last 13 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday games. The over is 8-2 in the Bearcats’ last 10 as an underdog and 8-2 in their last 10 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with UMBC in this one. After starting out on a great scoring clip (76 or more in three straight games) during their win streak, the Retrievers’ production dropped off with 66 or fewer in three straight games. Binghamton got close in their first couple of games but then hit a string of double-digit losses. The Bearcats played admirably in Sunday’s game so this one should be interesting as well.
