The Central Arkansas Bears and the Baylor Bears meet in college basketball action from the Ferrell Center on Tuesday night.
The Central Arkansas Bears will look to build off of their first win of the season in a 92-28 rout of subdivision Champion Christian College last time out. Rylan Bergersen led the Bears with 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting with a team-high 5 assists while Khaleem Bennett added 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting with a pair of steals as the only other double-digit scorer for Central Arkansas in the win. Churchill Bounds had 9 points on a perfect 4 of 4 shooting night with 7 rebounds while Eddy Kayouloud added 7 points with a team-high 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Jaxson Baker added 6 rebounds and 4 assists as well in the victory. Bergersen leads Central Arkansas in scoring with 15.3 points per game while Kayouloud leads the Bears in rebounding with 6.4 rebounds per game and Deandre Jones leads Central Arkansas in assists with 4.6 assists per game. As a team, Central Arkansas is averaging 71.7 points on 43.2% shooting from the field, 37.1% from 3-point range and 75.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 76.6 points on 41.6% shooting from the field and 31.9% from 3-point range this season.
The Baylor Bears will look to add to their 6-0 SU and ATS record after a 99-42 rout of Arkansas Pine Bluff last time out. L.J. Cryer led Baylor with 15 points including 4 threes and a pair of steals while Jared Butler added 14 points on 6 of 14 shooting with a team-high 7 assists and a pair of steals as well. MaCio Teague chipped in 13 points with a pair of triples while Matthew Mayer added 12 points and Jonathan Tchamwa-Tchatchoua added 10 points with a team-high 8 rebounds to cap off the scoring in double figures for Baylor in the victory. Flo Thamba added 8 rebounds while Davion Mitchell had 9 points and 6 assists with a pair of steals. Teague leads Baylor in scoring with an average of 15.3 points per game while Tchamwa-Tchatchoua leads Baylor on the glass with 7.2 rebounds per game and Butler leads Baylor in assists with 6.5 assists per game this season. As a team, Baylor is averaging 93.7 points per game on 52.1% shooting from the field, 47% from 3-point range and 69.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 61 points on 42.1% shooting from the field and 27.5% from 3-point range this season.
Central Arkansas is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games following a win. Baylor is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games while the under is 12-5 in their last 17 games following an ATS win.
Normally I’d say this was a cut and dry spot to take Baylor, but Central Arkansas has performed pretty well ATS for a 1-6 team and a 1-6 record isn’t surprising when the opposition is teams like Ole Miss, Memphis, Saint Louis, Mississippi State, etc. Central Arkansas has stepped up to the plate against all of those teams and I expect this to be their national championship and to try to rise to the occasion here. The problem is that Baylor’s sat down everyone who’s stood in front of them so far this season, and that includes a 50-point win over Louisiana-Lafayette, a 34-point win over Washington as well as double-digit wins over Illinois and Kansas State, all of which are teams that are stronger than Central Arkansas. I just think this is a game where Baylor names their number and wins by 40+, so I’ll lay the points with Baylor in a rout.
