The Florida State Seminoles and the Clemson Tigers meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Littlejohn Coliseum.
Florida State is sitting at 5-1 so far. The Seminoles lost to UCF on December 19 but bounced back with a win over Gardner-Webb in their last game. As for Clemson, they’re 6-1 this season. After falling to Virginia Tech, the Tigers got a win over Morehead State in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Florida State opened up the season with four straight wins, taking out North Florida 86-58, Indiana 69-67, Florida 83-71 and Georgia Tech 74-61. The Seminoles took their first loss of the season against a tricky UCF team 86-74, but then managed a 72-59 win over Gardner-Webb last week.
In the win over the Bulldogs, Florida State’s leading scorer was Anthony Polite with 15 points, nine rebounds and one assist. Balsa Koprivica was the only other Seminoles player in double-figures with 14 points and eight rebounds, but both Rayquan Evans and Malik Osbourne chipped in eight points apiece.
Over on the Clemson side, they kicked off the year with five straight victories, dispatching Mississippi State, Purdue, South Carolina State, Maryland and Alabama in succession. The Tigers took a tough loss 66-60 to Virginia Tech, but then beat Morehead State 66-51 in their last game.
In the win over the Eagles, Clemson’s top scorer was Nick Honor with 14 points and two assists in 21 minutes. Aamir Simms notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards, and Al-Amir Dawes posted 12 points with three assists for the Tigers.
Clemson is 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 0-4 ATS in their last four Tuesday games. The Tigers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and the under is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Seminoles are 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 Tuesday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. Florida State is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 after a straight-up win and the under is 23-11 in their last 34 road games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Clemson in this one. The Tigers have played well in ever game so far, even though they haven’t scored more than 67 points in any of their last four games. Clemson is more of a slower-burn defensive team this season, and they’ve put the lid on good teams like Virginia Tech (66 points), Maryland (51 points) and Alabama (56 points). Florida State is going to want to stretch the court and keep a swift pace here, but I think Clemson will be ready. Should be a really good matchup.
