The Furman Paladins will look to build on their 6-3 overall record to start conference play after a 118-52 win over South Carolina State last time out. Garrett Hien added 5 assists as well for the Paladins in the blowout. Bothwell leads Furman with an average of 17.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4 assists per game this season, all team-highs. As a team, Furman is averaging 87.1 points on 50.7% shooting from the field, 35.9% from 3-point range and 74.2% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.8 points on 41.3% shooting from the field and 26.8% from 3-point range this season.
The Chattanooga Mocs will look to remain unbeaten, entering conference play at 9-0 following a 66-63 road win over Tennessee State last time out. Malachi Smith led the Mocs with 29 points on 9 of 20 shooting with a 10 of 11 mark from the foul line with 13 rebounds for the double-double while Stefan Kenic added 16 points with an 11 of 13 mark from the foul line as the only other double-digit scorer for Chattanooga in the winning effort. Furman is 18-8 ATS in their last 26 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Chattanooga is 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. The favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I understand the case that can be made for Furman on the road as the Paladins have played the tougher schedule with games against Cincinnati, Alabama and Winthrop. However, the Paladins lost all of those games and their wins for the most part have come against some weak/subdivision competition. Chattanooga hasn’t had the toughest schedule either, but they’re undefeated and have road wins over UAB, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State, not to mention each of their last three games have been three-point victories. I’m not sure the Mocs win this one outright, but this line is showing zero respect to what Chattanooga’s done to start the year. I’ll take the Mocs and the points in this one.
