The George Washington Colonials and the Fordham Rams meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Rose Hill Gym.
George Washington enters this one at 1-6 so far. The Colonials have lost four straight games to UMBC, Delaware, William & Mary and Charlotte. As for Fordham, this will be their first game of the season. The Rams are coming off a 9-22 record overall last year. George Washington’s record looks pretty ugly this year, but they’ve been close in a few games. The Colonials kicked off with losses to Navy and Hampton before getting a win over Coppin State. Since then, it’s been losses to UMBC 92-81, Delaware 68-65, William & Mary 85-84 and Charlotte 66-65.
In the loss to the 49ers, George Washington’s top scorer was James Bishop on 20 points, five assists and four rebounds. Jamison Battle added 19 points with three boards and one assist, and Matthew Moyer added 12 points with nine rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Fordham side, they managed to go just 9-22 overall last season with a 2-16 record in Atlantic 10 play. That mark left the Rams in last place in the division standings. Fordham beat George Washington in the A-10 Tournament before the remainder of the games were cancelled.
It’s been difficult for Fordham to get on the floor this season. The team has suffered a rash of cancellations dating all the way back to November 24. Matchups against Iona, Manhattan, Maine, Central Connecticut State and Stony Brook were all scrapped over the past few weeks.
The Rams are 20-41 ATS in their last 61 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games. Fordham is 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Colonials are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 overall and 17-35-1 ATS in their last 53 road games. The over is 6-2 in George Washington’s last eight overall and the under is 18-7-1 in their last 26 road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with George Washington here. It’s tough telling what Fordham will look like until they get onto the court, but with the Rams returning just two of five starters it’s safe to say they’ll play a little differently. Fordham had a great defense last year but simply couldn’t score. The Colonials have had a few good offensive games this season, and I like GW to keep the scoring pace up to get past a rusty Rams squad.
