The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Tennessee-Martin enters this one at 3-2 so far. The Skyhawks have lost their last two games to Western Illinois and Ole Miss. As for Jacksonville State, they’re 6-2 so far. The Gamecocks are riding a three-game winning streak versus Tennessee Tech (twice) and Carver. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Tennessee-Martin opened up the year at 3-0. Those victories came 93-87 over Evansville, 95-60 over Bethel TN and 69-67 over SEMO. Since then it’s been consecutive losses for the Skyhawks, however. They’ve lost to Western Illinois 81-63 and Mississippi 90-43 in their last pair.
In the loss to Ole Miss, TN-Martin scored just 19 points in the first half, and no player finished in double-figures scoring. Leading the way for the Skyhawks were Anthony Thomas and Ajani Kennedy, each with seven points and a combined one assist and three rebounds.
Over on the Jacksonville State side, they opened up with a loss to Alabama but then beat Florida Atlantic, South Alabama and Mobile in their next three. After a loss to FIU, the Gamecocks won three more over Tennessee Tech twice and Carver.
In the 104-45 win over Carver, Jacksonville State’s top performer was Darian Adams on 21 points with four rebounds and four assists. Semaj Henderson posted 15 points with three assists and two rebounds, and Amanze Ngumezi chipped in with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists in 18 minutes of action.
The Gamecocks are 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 8-3 in Jacksonville State’s last 11 overall and 7-1 in their last eight home games.
Meanwhile, the Skyhawks are 12-25 ATS in their last 37 after an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. TN-Martin is 1-6 ATS in the last seven road games and the over is 26-11 in their last 37 overall.
PICK: I’m going with Jacksonville State in this one. Tennessee-Martin has looked pretty bad in their last couple of outings, getting outscored by a combined 171-106 in that pair. The Skyhawks shot just 30.4 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 45-22 by a good Ole Miss team in their last game. Jacksonville State obviously won’t represent that level of competition here, but the Gamecocks have been scoring well this season overall and I think they’ll manage a cover.
