The Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Ohio State Buckeyes meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Value City Arena.
Nebraska enters this game at 4-5 so far. The Cornhuskers have lost their last two outings to Wisconsin and Michigan. As for Ohio State, they’re sitting at 7-2 this season. The Buckeyes had won consecutive games before falling to Northwestern in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Nebraska kicked off the year at 3-1 with a loss to Nevada as the only blemish. Since then it’s been a 1-4 run for the Cornhuskers. They’ve got a win over Doane mixed in with losses to Georgia Tech, Creighton, Wisconsin and Michigan in their last five games.
In the 80-69 loss to Michigan on Christmas, Nebraska’s top scorer was Teddy Allen with 25 points and six rebounds. Dalano Banton managed 17 points with five rebounds and three assists, while Trey McGowens added 15 points with four rebounds and one assist as well.
Over on the Ohio State side, they started out the season at 5-0 with wins over Illinois State, UMass Lowell, Morehead State, Notre Dame and Cleveland State. After a 67-60 loss to Purdue, the Buckeyes took out UCLA 77-70 and Rutgers 80-68 before dropping a tough one to Northwestern 71-70.
In the loss to the Wildcats, the Buckeyes’ EJ Liddell led the team on 15 points with eight rebounds and two assists. Kyle Young added 14 points with eight rebounds, and Seth Towns managed 11 points with three rebounds. Duane Washington added seven points with five rebounds and four assists.
The Buckeyes are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 home games and 34-15-2 ATS in their last 51 Wednesday games. Ohio State is 4-0 ATS in their last four after a straight-up loss and the under is 12-5 in their last 17 Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers are 1-7 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Nebraska is 1-4 ATS in the last five road games and the under is 5-2 in their last seven overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Ohio State. The Buckeyes have been spotty against tricky competition in their last four games, but were able to stick right with a very good Northwestern team in their latest outing. Nebraska has come up short in their last two games versus ranked teams, posting only 132 combined points in that pair. I like Ohio State to bounce back from a tough loss in this matchup, taking out their frustration on an overmatched Cornhuskers team in a cover.
