The VMI Keydets and the Samford Bulldogs meet in SoCon college basketball action from the Pete Hanna Center on Wednesday night.
The VMI Keydets will try to rebound from back-to-back losses, sitting at 5-4 after a 68-66 loss to George Mason last time out. The Samford Bulldogs will look to add to a 133-84 win over subdivision Belhaven from their last outing. A.J. Staton-McCray led the Bulldogs with 23 points on 7 of 8 shooting with 5 threes and 3 steals while Triston Chambers added 21 points including 6 threes with a pair of steals and Logan Dye added 15 points on 7 of 10 shooting in just 11 minutes off of the bench. Jalen Dupree added 14 points on a perfect 6 of 6 shooting from the floor with a team-high 9 rebounds to cap off the scoring in double figures for Samford in the win. Jaron Rillie and Richardson Maitre each had a team-high 7 assists while Marcellus Vail dished out 5 assists as well in the win for the Bulldogs. Myron Gordon leads Samford in scoring with an average of 17.7 points per game while Christian Guess leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 10 boards per game and Richardson Maitre leads Samford in assists with 3.7 helpers per game this season. This game is a tough one as the line is so low and I do think this one could go either way. However, Samford is at home and while there are no fans in the stands, they’re still used to this building and the Bulldogs have also played the slightly tougher schedule up to this point. I think the tests will serve Samford well here so I’ll lay the points with the Bulldogs in this spot.
