SMU hasn’t had much difficulty this season so far, and only one victory has come by less than double-digits. The Mustangs kicked off with wins 97-67 over Sam Houston, 91-54 over Texas A&M-CC, 102-75 over Houston Baptist and 66-64 over Dayton. Last week’s game was another big win 70-55 over East Carolina.
In the win over the Pirates, SMU’s top scorer was Kendric Davis with 17 points, six assists and three rebounds. Darius McNeill added 13 points with three assists and two rebounds, and Feron Hunt doubled up on 11 points and 10 boards.
Over on the Temple side, they kicked things off with a solid 72-60 win over NJIT. Leading the team in scoring there was Damian Dunn with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. De’Vondre Perry managed a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds as well.
Game two didn’t go as well for Temple, and they fell to Houston 76-50. JP Moorman was the only Owls player in double-figures there with 12 points, two rebounds and two assists, and Brendan Barry chipped in nine points with three assists and two rebounds.
Temple is 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. The Owls are 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss and the under is 5-0 in the last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games. SMU is 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and the over is 8-3 in their last 11 Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m sticking with SMU. Granted, Temple put up a good effort in their first game and really weren’t going to be competitive against an excellent Houston team in their last outing. I expect the Owls to play well here, but I think the Mustangs can lean on their offense to hold them off. SMU has put up 70 or more points in four of their five games and this one should be another reasonably high-scoring affair.
