Austin Peay began the year with wins over Omaha and East Tennessee State, but then lost two of their next three games to Abilene Christian and Murray State. Since then it’s been an 82-68 win over Mckendree, a 76-70 loss to Florida A&M and a 74-70 win over Murray State for the Governors.
In the win over the Racers, Austin Peay’s top contributor was Terry Taylor with 30 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. Also in double-figures for the Governors in that one were DJ Peavy (11 points; three rebounds) and Tai’Reon Joseph (10 points; one rebound; one assist).
Over on the Tennessee State side, they kicked things off with three straight losses. Those defeats came courtesy of Belmont, IUPUI and Belmont again. Since then it’s been a 90-68 win over Crowley’s Ridge and another loss on December 22. That one was 66-63 to Chattanooga.
In the loss to the Mocs, Tennessee State’s leading scorer was Mark Freeman with 20 points, six assists and five rebounds. Josh Linder added 13 points with four rebounds, and Shakem Johnson managed 11 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Tigers.
Tennessee State is 6-2 ATS in their last eight Wednesday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six home games. The Tigers are 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and the under is 16-5 in their last 21 overall.
Meanwhile, the Governors are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games and 3-13-1 ATS in their last 17 overall. Austin Peay is 0-5 ATS in their last five road games and 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Austin Peay. Tennessee State put up a nice effort against a good Chattanooga team in their last outing, and even had a three-point halftime lead. That said, the Tigers have been at 66 points or fewer in each of their losses and haven’t been able to find much offense at all. Austin Peay has hit 70 or more points in each of their last three games and seems to be in a pretty good scoring rhythm. The cover should be there for the Governors.
