The Marshall Thundering Herd and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs meet in C-USA college basketball action from the Thomas Assembly Center on Friday night.
The Marshall Thundering Herd will look to build on back-to-back wins after an 88-67 win over UNC-Asheville last time out. Taevion Kinsey led the Herd with 26 points on 11 of 17 shooting with a pair of threes with 6 assists while Mikel Meyers added 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 4 threes and 3 blocks while Jarrod West added 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting with a pair of threes, 9 assists and 3 steals. Obinna Anochili-Killen added 10 points with 7 rebounds, 3 steals and a pair of blocks to cap off the scoring in double figures for Marshall in the winning effort. Kinsey leads Marshall in scoring with 21.7 points per game while West leads the Herd in assists with 7.3 assists per game and Andrew Taylor leads Marshall in rebounding with 8.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Marshall is averaging 82.1 points on 48.2% shooting from the field, 34.4% from 3-point range and 77.2% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 70.4 points on 40.8% shooting from the field and 37% from 3-point range this season.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will look to build on a 68-57 win over Louisiana-Monroe in their last game to improve to 7-2 on the year. Cobe Williams and Kalob Ledoux each had 13 points and 4 rebounds with Williams shooting 5 of 9 from the field while Ledoux added a pair of threes. Jacolby Pemberton added 11 points with 8 rebounds to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Louisiana Tech in the winning effort. Kenneth Lofton Jr. added 7 points with a team-high 12 rebounds and a pair of steals as well in the victory for the Bulldogs. Ledoux leads Louisiana Tech in scoring with 14.4 points per game while Pemberton leads the Bulldogs on the glass with 7.7 rebounds per game and Williams leads the Bulldogs in assists with 3 helpers per game this season. As a team, Louisiana Tech is averaging 74.8 points on 43.6% shooting from the field, 34.6% from 3-point range and 66.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 66.4 points on 41% shooting from the field and 32.1% from 3-point range this season.
Marshall is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. Louisiana Tech is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. The underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
This is a hard one to call and the line reflects that with the game being almost a coin flip. However, as good as Louisiana Tech’s been at home this season, the Bulldogs have had some issues covering the number dating back to earlier this season. Marshall is once again one of the more talented teams in C-USA and I just think they match up really well with LA Tech here and have the size and length to make LA Tech’s life miserable in this one. I’ll take the free point with the Herd on the road here.
