The Niagara Purple Eagles and the Marist Red Foxes meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from McCann Arena on Friday afternoon.
The Niagara Purple Eagles will look to add to their 3-3 overall mark after improving to 2-2 in conference play with a 70-65 win over Albany last time out. As a team, Niagara is averaging 61.2 points on 40.2% shooting from the field, 32% from 3-point range and 67.7% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 62.5 points on 40.9% shooting from the field and 33.1% from 3-point range.
The Marist Red Foxes will also look to keep the momentum going, making it three straight wins for a 5-1 overall record and 3-1 mark in MAAC play after a 72-67 win over Manhattan last time out. Ricardo Wright led the Foxes with 18 points on 5 of 11 shooting with a 7 of 9 mark from the foul line and a pair of steals while Raheim Sullivan added 13 points and Victor Enoh added 11 points with 15 rebounds for the monstrous double-double to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Marist in the winning effort. Jordan Jones also chipped in 8 points with 6 rebounds, a pair of steals and 3 blocks in the victory. Niagara is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games against a team with a winning home record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. Marist is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games against a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400 while the under is 10-2-1 in their last 13 Friday games. The home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I think you can make a case for either side here as both have been pretty good against the number so far this season. However, one glaring stat that stands out is how little scoring there is when these two teams take the floor as both teams are scoring and giving up numbers in the low 60s. I think we see a defensive battle in this one where the first to 60 wins this game, so I’ll side with the under in this one.
