The CSU-Fullerton Titans and the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos meet in Big West conference college basketball action from the Thunderdome on Friday night.
The CSU-Fullerton Titans will finally take the court in conference play after their lone game of the season, a 94-70 win over San Diego Christian last time out. Wayne Arnold led the Titans with 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting with 5 threes, 4 rebounds and 4 assists while Tory San Antonio and Jalen Harris each had 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting with San Antonio adding a team-high 5 assists with a pair of steals while Harris drilled a pair of threes. Vincent Lee added 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting with a team-high 6 rebounds to finish off the scoring in double figures while Johnny Wang added 6 rebounds as well in the victory. As a team, CSU-Fullerton is averaging 94 points on 55.2% shooting from the field, 44% from 3-point range and 81.8% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 70 points on 38.5% from the field and 34.4% from 3-point range this season.
The UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos will be looking to rebound from a 73-69 loss to UC-Irvine last time out. JaQuori McLaughlin led the Gauchos with 22 points including a 12 of 12 mark from the foul line and a team-high 5 assists while Ajare Sanni added 18 points on 6 of 7 shooting with 4 threes and Miles Norris added 16 points on 7 of 13 shooting with a pair of threes to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for UCSB in the losing effort. McLaughlin leads UCSB in scoring and assists with an average of 17.2 points and 5.2 assists per game while Sow leads the Gauchos in rebounding with 6.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UC-Santa Barbara is averaging 80 points on 49.3% shooting from the field, 35.8% from behind the 3-point line and 71.7% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.3 points on 41.4% shooting from the field and 32% from 3-point range this season.
CSU-Fullerton is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-24 ATS in their last 31 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 9-3 in their last 12 games overall. UC-Santa Barbara is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 games following a loss. The favorite is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.
This is a ton of points to give up with a UC-Santa Barbara team that’s been not much to write home about this season, but I think this line just goes to show how much only playing one game can be a disadvantage against a team like UCSB who’s had multiple games under their belts already. Fullerton’s going to be getting up to speed on the fly while UC-Santa Barbara will be looking to get some mojo back after being swept by UC-Irvine over the weekend. I’ll lay the points with the Gauchos in this spot.
