Green Bay has been close in a few games this season, but hasn’t had any luck in the win column. The Phoenix kicked off with losses to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Eastern Illinois and Marquette. After that it was a pair of losses to Milwaukee and two to Wright State 67-53 and 90-77.
In the Sunday loss to the Raiders, Green Bay’s top scorer was Amari Davis with 35 points, four rebounds and one assist. The only other Phoenix player in double-figures for that game was PJ Pipes, who notched 10 points, two rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Youngstown State side, they opened up the year with a three-game win streak over Point Park, Binghamton and WVU Tech. The Penguins took a loss to Northern Kentucky then beat the Norse in the next game. Since then it’s been two losses to Cleveland State 87-69 and 81-74.
In the Sunday loss to the Vikings, Youngstown State’s top scorer was Garrett Covington with 24 points, seven abounds and two assists. Alex Vargo chipped in 14 points with six rebounds, and Naz Bohannon managed 13 points with seven rebounds and five assists.
Youngstown State is 1-4 ATS in their last five Friday games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. The Penguins are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix are 5-1 ATS in their last six Friday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up loss. The over is 15-7 in Green Bay’s last 22 road games and the under is 5-0 in their last five Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to take Youngstown State in this one, but probably staying away. Green Bay has been unremarkable on the scoreboard in most games this season, but every once in a while the Phoenix throw up a nice total (77 versus Wright State, 91 versus Eastern Illinois, etc.) and will probably score pretty well here. Youngstown State has been at 69 or more points in each of their last three however, and should be able to keep a nice offensive rhythm going. Should be an interesting matchup at least.
