Saint Peter’s kicked off the year at 2-2 with wins over Stony Brook and La Salle alongside losses to St. John’s and Maryland. After that it was consecutive wins over Niagara and a loss to Monmouth. The Peacocks managed a 78-76 win over Monmouth to bounce back, then took out St. Francis BK 70-64.
In Friday’s game, Saint Peter’s fell flat with a 70-58 loss to Canisius. In that one, the Peacocks’ leading scorer was KC Ndefo with 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Doug Edert added 15 points with four rebounds, and Daryl Banks chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Over on the Canisius side, they began their year with a win over Marist, then lost to the Foxes a day later 56-52. The Griffins had a 15-day layoff in between games after that, and came back to an 84-66 loss to Monmouth. Canisius lost to Monmouth again the next day 97-69.
In the Friday victory over Saint Peter’s, Canisius’ leading scorers were Jacco Fritz and Jordan Henderson. Each player notched 14 points apiece, and Fritz doubled up with 10 rebounds and four assists. Majesty Brandon added nine points for the Griffins, as did Jalanni White.
Canisius is 3-6 ATS in their last nine home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The under is 13-6-1 in the Griffins’ last 20 Saturday games and the over is 7-2 in their last nine home games.
Meanwhile, the Peacocks are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games. Saint Peter’s is 0-3-1 ATS in their last four road games and the over is 5-1 in their last six road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Canisius in this one. The Griffins came out of the gate with some limp offensive performances, but they got it rolling in the Friday game. Canisius jumped out to a 40-21 lead at halftime and were able to cruise the rest of the way. It was one of the better performances for the Griffins this season. Saint Peter’s is due for a bounce-back performance, but if Canisius can play like they did in the first game they should be in good shape for another cover.
