The Marquette Golden Eagles and the Georgetown Hoyas meet in Big East conference college basketball action from Capital One Arena on Saturday night.
The Marquette Golden Eagles will look to bounce back and get back above .500 after falling to 5-5 with an 85-68 loss to Villanova last time out. Koby McEwen leads Marquette in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game, shooting 45.5% from the field and 43.8% from 3-point range in addition to dishing out 2.8 assists per game this season. Dawson Garcia is 2nd on the team in scoring with 12.7 PPG along with a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game and DJ Carton isn’t far behind with 11.8 points and a team-high 3.6 assists per game this season. Jamal Cain is Marquette’s 4th and final double-digit scorer this season, averaging 10.1 PPG and 6.6 RPG while Theo John has 8.5 PPG, 6.2 RPG and 1.8 blocks per game. As a team, Marquette is averaging 75.3 points on 46.3% shooting from the field, 39.6% from 3-point range and 72.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 70.9 points on 40.4% shooting from the field and 34.6% from 3-point range this season.
The Georgetown Hoyas will be out to rebound from a 78-67 loss to Seton Hall in their last game, falling to 3-5 on the season as a result. Jahvon Blair leads Georgetown in scoring with an average of 18.9 PPG along with 3.4 APG this season while Qudus Wahab is 2nd on the team in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game while also sitting 2nd with 8.3 RPG this season. Jamorko Pickett has 11.8 PPG and a team-high 9.3 RPG this season while Donald Carey has 10.8 PPG as Georgetown’s 4th double-digit scorer per game this season. Jalen Harris is also dishing out 5.2 assists per game this season for the Hoyas. As a team, Georgetown is averaging 75.3 points on 43.1% shooting from the field, 36.5% from behind the arc and 71.5% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 76.3 points on 41.3% shooting from the field and 33.2% from 3-point land this season.
Marquette is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. Georgetown is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 home games. The road team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I’m not fond of either of these teams this season as I still think Marquette is adjusting to life without Markus Howard while Georgetown’s been a mess for some time now. With that said, I’m trying to get myself to understand Marquette being favored in this spot on the road, and I’m just not there. Marquette does have the road win against Creighton, but everything was going in that night and every team is bound to have one of those games every now and again. Outside of that, the Golden Eagles have failed to cover in five of their last six, losing outright in four of those games. Granted, they were an underdog in three of the games as well, but the results just aren’t there to the point that I’d want to lay this number on the road. Georgetown’s had their moments where I have to scratch my head, but even at home I think there’s some value with the Hoyas here. I’ll lean towards the Hoyas and the points in this spot.
