The Fordham Rams and the La Salle Explorers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Tom Gola Arena.
Fordham has been able to play just one game this year so far. The Rams are 0-1 after a 24-point loss to George Washington on Wednesday. As for La Salle, they’re 4-5 this season. The Explorers are 2-1 in their last three games and coming off a two-point win over Dayton. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Fordham is coming off a disappointing season last year, going 9-22 overall and 2-16 in Atlantic 10 play. It’s been difficult for the Rams to get on the court this season to avenge that record. Fordham has had games cancelled against Iona, Manhattan, Maine, Central CT and Stony Brook.
The Rams finally got to play a game on December 30 in a 71-47 loss to George Washington. Leading the way for Fordham in that one was Josh Colon with 14 points, one rebound and one assist. Joel Soriano managed a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in 24 minutes.
Over on the La Salle side, they kicked off the year at 0-3 with losses to St. John’s, Saint Peter’s and Army but then won their next pair over Lincoln PA and Drexel. The Explorers then lost to UMAss, beat Delaware, lost to Maryland and eked by Dayton 67-65 in their last game Wednesday.
In the victory over the Flyers, La Salle’s top scorer was Sherif Kenney with 14 points, one assist and two rebounds. Jack Clark added 12 points with two rebounds, and Jhamir Brickus posted 11 points, three assists and two boards in 24 minutes on the court.
La Salle is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games. The over is 4-0 in the Explorers’ last four after an ATS and 8-3 in their last 11 home games.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and 4-0 ATS in their last four after a straight-up loss. The under is 7-3 in Fordham’s last 10 road games and 26-11-1 in their last 38 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with La Salle. I’m probably staying away from this one however, as Fordham has only played the one game (and didn’t look good doing it). The Rams got a few good scoring performances out of their roster in the opener, but they were down 38-20 at the break against a not-great George Washington team and didn’t get any closer after that. As for La Salle, they’ve been all over the place scoring-wise this year but they should have the gas to bag a cover in this one.
