The Kentucky Wildcats and the Mississippi State Bulldogs meet Saturday in college basketball action from Humphrey Coliseum.
Kentucky enters this game at 1-6 so far. The Wildcats won their first game but have since lost six in a row, most recently to Louisville last weekend. As for Mississippi State, they’re 6-3 this season. The Bulldogs are riding a three-game winning streak, most recently taking out Georgia on Wednesday. Kentucky opened the year with a nice win over Morehead State 81-45. Since then, it’s been a string of six straight losses for the Wildcats, however. Those defeats have come courtesy of Richmond, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Louisville.
In the 62-59 loss to Louisville last weekend, Kentucky’s top scorer was Davion Mintz with 19 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Brandon Boston added 11 points with seven rebounds and one assist, while Jacob Toppin bagged 10 points and six boards in 24 minutes.
Over on the Mississippi State side, they kicked off the year with consecutive losses to Clemson and Liberty. A three-game winning streak followed over Texas State, North Texas and Jackson State, then a loss to Dayton. The Bulldogs have won their last three over Central AR, MS Valley and Georgia.
In the 83-73 win over Georgia, Mississippi State’s Iverson Molinar logged 24 points with three rebounds and three assists to lead the team. DJ Stewart added 18 points with seven rebounds and two assists, and Deivon Smith had 13 points with three boards and three assists.
The Bulldogs are 15-5 ATS in their last 20 Saturday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. Mississippi State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall and the over is 10-4 in their last 14 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four games overall and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven road games. The under is 7-0 in Kentucky’s last seven games overall and 6-1 in their last seven Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Mississippi State in this one. Kentucky has notched just one good offensive outings this year, but as they’ve scored 64 points or fewer in each of their last six outings. The Bulldogs have hit 81 or more in each of their last five games and are on a nice roll right now after the big win over Georgia. I like Mississippi State to keep it going and bang out a cover.
