Northern Colorado enters this one at 4-3 so far this year. The Bears are 1-2 in their last three games and coming off a loss to Idaho State. As for Montana, they’re 3-5 this year. Northern Colorado opened up the year with consecutive wins over CO Christian and Regis CO before falling to Colorado. Since then it’s been a win over Denver, a loss to Utah State, a win over Idaho State and a loss to Idaho State in their last game on December 23.
In the loss to the Bengals, Northern Colorado’s top scorer was Daylen Kountz with 15 points and three rebounds in 32 minutes. Kur Jockuch added 11 points with seven rebounds, and Sam Masten posted 10 points with six rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Montana side, they kicked off the year with four straight losses to USC, Southern Utah twice, and Georgia. The Grizzlies were able to get wins in their next three games, but couldn’t get over the .500 hump after falling to Arizona 70-64 in their last game.
In the loss to the Wildcats, Montana’s Robby Beasley led the team with 17 points, one rebound and one assist in 23 minutes. Kyle Owens added 13 points with six rebounds, and Josh Vazquez managed 10 points with four rebounds and two assists for the Grizzlies.
Montana is 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. The Grizzlies are 0-4 ATS in their last four after a straight-up loss and the over is 16-7 in their last 23 overall.
Meanwhile, Northern Colorado is 5-1 ATS in their last six Saturday games and 35-16-1 ATS in their last 52 road games. The Bears are 21-6 ATS in their last 27 after an ATS loss and the over is 6-1 in their last seven road games.
PICK: I’m going with Northern Colorado in this one. Montana came out of the gate this year with a couple of flat outings, notching a combined 125 points versus USC and Southern Utah. The Grizzlies have managed 66 points or fewer in two of their last three games as well. Northern Colorado has been flat over the last three games themselves, but they’ve also got some pretty solid offensive outings to their credit this year. I think the Bears can pace themselves just well enough to eke out a cover.
