Oral Roberts opened up the year with a loss to Missouri but then took out Rogers State in game two. After consecutive losses to Wichita State and Oklahoma State, the Eagles got two more wins before dropping their next pair to Oklahoma 79-65 and Arkansas 87-76.
In the loss to the Razorbacks, Oral Roberts’ top scorer was Kevin Obanor with 21 points and 10 rebounds. RJ Grasper added 14 points with four rebounds and two assists, while Kareem Thompson chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Eagles.
Over on the Omaha side, they fell to Austin Peay in their opener but then took out Middle Tennessee in game two. Three more losses followed for the Maverisk before a win over SIUE. Since then it’s been four straight losses to Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and Kansas State.
In the loss to the Wildcats, Omaha’s top performer was Ayo Akinwole with 19 points, three rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes. The only other Mavericks player in double-figures there was Sam’i Roe with 12 points, four rebounds and one assist in 29 minutes of play.
The Mavericks are 1-7 ATS in their last eight Saturday games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall. Omaha is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS win and 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. Oral Roberts is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Omaha here. Oral Roberts has put up some pretty good offensive totals this year (76 versus Arkansas, 80 versus Wichita State, etc.) but they’ve also been coughing up a lot of points on the other side. Omaha’s record looks ugly—and it is—but the good news is that the Mavericks have been staying in games lately, losing their last pair by four points or fewer. I think Omaha can stick around and pace themselves well enough to cover in this one.
