The Wright State Raiders and the Oakland Golden Grizzlies meet Saturday in college baseball action from Athletics Center O’rena.
Wright State comes into this one at 7-1 overall. As for Oakland, they’re sitting at 2-10 this year. This will be a rematch of Friday’s game featuring these teams. In that one, Wright State took a dominant 39-point win. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Wright State opened up the season with an 80-64 loss to Marshall, but then promptly got the wins going. The Raiders rattled off victories over Miami-OH, Bowling Green, Detroit (twice) and Green Bay (twice) for a six-game winning streak heading into Friday’s matchup.
In the Friday game, Wright State hit the gas from the beginning, jumping out to a 49-21 halftime lead and cruising to a 90-51 blowout win. Leading the scoring for the Raiders in that one was Tanner Holden with 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
Over on the Oakland side, they got their season going on a sour note, falling in each of their first nine outings. Those defeats came courtesy of Xavier, Toledo, Bradley, Michigan, Purdue, Oklahoma State, Michigan Sate and UIC twice. The Grizzlies eked out wins over Detroit in their next two appearances.
In Friday’s game, Oakland couldn’t get much going and tumbled in a big loss to the Raiders. Tops in scoring for Oakland in the defeat was Jalen Moore with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal with 0-of-3 from 3-point range.
The Grizzlies are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 Saturday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games. Oakland is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall and the over is 9-1 in their last 10 overall.
Meanwhile, the Raiders are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games and the over is 7-2 in their last nine Saturday games. The over is 6-1 in Wright State’s last seven versus a team with a losing straight-up record and 7-1 in their last eight road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Wright State in this one. The Raiders have posted a couple relatively flat offensive efforts this year, but they’ve been better lately. Heading into Friday’s matchup, the Raiders had logged 71 or more points in five of their previous six games. Friday’s game featured Wright State firing on all cylinders, and the Raiders got a good opportunity for some bench minutes. If the Raiders are on their game again, look out.
