The Colorado State Rams and the San Diego State Aztecs meet Saturday in college basketball action from Viejas Arena.
Colorado State enters this matchup at 5-1 so far. The Rams have won three straight games versus Santa Clara and Fresno State (twice). As for the Aztecs, they’re sitting at 6-1 this season. After losing to BYU, San Diego State bounced back with a win over Saint Mary’s in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Colorado State opened up the year with consecutive wins over CSU-Pueblo and Northern Arizona. The Rams then took a loss to Saint Mary’s 53-33 in game three. Since then it’s been three more consecutive wins for Colorado State; they’ve taken out Santa Clara and Fresno State (twice) in that span.
In Wednesday’s 81-59 win over the Bulldogs, Colorado State’s David Roddy led the team on 17 points with 11 rebounds and three assists. PJ Byrd added 14 points with two rebounds, while Isaiah Rivera chipped in 11 points, six boards and three assists.
Over on the Aztecs’ side, they kicked off the season with five straight wins, beating UCLA, UC Irvine, St. Katherine, Pepperdine and Arizona State. San Diego State took a 72-62 loss to BYU, but were able to bounce back on a 74-49 win over Saint Mary’s in their last game.
In the win over the Gaels, San Diego State’s top scorer was Nathan Mensah with 18 points and 13 rebounds on a double-double. Terrell Gomez added 13 points with four assists and Jordan Schakel chipped in on 12 points with two rebounds in 28 minutes of action.
San Diego State is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 14-6 ATS in their last 20 versus a team with a winning straight-up record. The under is 8-3 in the Aztecs’ last 11 home games and 5-2 in their last seven after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games after a straight-up win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. The under is 5-2 in Colorado State’s last seven road games and 41-16 in their last 57 after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m sticking with Colorado State in this one. We should have a pretty good matchup on our hands here, though. The Rams fell flat with just 33 points in the Saint Mary’s game, but otherwise they’ve scored well with 70 or more points in each of their other five outings. San Diego State has been boring well also, with 73 or more in five of seven games. This one should be close most of the way, but I like the Rams to tough out a cover.
