The Florida A&M Rattlers and the South Carolina Gamecocks meet in college basketball action from the Colonial Life Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Florida A&M Rattlers will look for a big road win, sitting at 1-6 on the year after posting a 74-64 loss to Georgia Tech in their last outing. MJ Randolph leads Florida A&M as the team’s lone double-digit scorer, posting team-highs of 16.2 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game with a pair of steals per contest as well. Johnny Brown, Evins Desir and Jalen Speer each have 9+ points as well for the Rattlers with Brown and Desir logging 4+ rebounds per game as well on the year. Bryce Moragne has 7.7 PPG and 5 RPG as well to share the team lead on the glass with Randolph this season. As a team, Florida A&M is averaging 65.2 points per game on 44.9% shooting from the field, 33% from behind the arc and 65.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 77.7 points on 49.7% shooting from the field and 29.7% from 3-point range this season.
The South Carolina Gamecocks come into this game fairly well rested having not played since December 5th due to COVID issues within the program, sitting at 1-2 after a 77-67 loss to Houston. Jermaine Couisnard leads South Carolina in scoring through three games with 13.3 PPG while AJ Lawson is the Gamecocks’ only other double-digit scorer, logging 11.3 PPG and a pair of assists per contest, chasing the aforementioned Couisnard, who has a team-high 2.7 APG up to this point in the year. Juan Minaya also has 8.7 points and 6 rebounds per game for South Carolina through their first three contests. As a team, South Carolina is averaging 66 points on 43.6% shooting from the field, 31.6% from 3-point range and 62.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 71 points per game on 44.5% shooting from the field and 30.6% from 3-point range this season.
Florida A&M is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. South Carolina is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 games overall.
I think you can look at this one of two ways, that South Carolina will be eager to come out and finally play, or that there’s going to be some rust and value on Florida A&M and I think both will be true here. I think the Gamecocks are ready to get back to business, but they haven’t played in almost a month so there’s bound to be some rust and it’s going to take time to get back to game speed. Florida A&M might be a tune-up for the Gamecocks, but they’ve also been playing more regularly and have also been pretty good at covering the numbers against the bigger teams this season. I’m not saying the Rattlers win this outright, but don’t be surprised if the Gamecocks don’t come anywhere near sniffing a cover the entire game. Give me Florida A&M and the points here.
