Belmont opened the year with three straight wins over Howard, George Mason and Queens NC. The Bruins then lost to Samford for their only defeat of the year so far. Since then it’s been wins over Tennessee State, Lipscomb, Kennesaw State, Tennessee State, Evansville and Murray State.
In the win over the Racers, Belmont’s top scorer was Ben Sheppard with 21 points, two assists and four rebounds. Grayson Murphy added 15 points with seven rebounds and four assists, and Nick Muszynski pitched in with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Over on the Tennessee-Martin side, they opened up the year with three straight wins, taking out Evansville, Bethel TN and Southeast Missouri State. Since then it’s been three straight losses for the Skyhawks; those have come to Western Illinois, Ole Miss and Jacksonville State.
In the loss to the Gamecocks, Tennessee-Martin’s leading scorer was Cameron Holden, who notched a double-double on 23 points, 11 rebounds and one assist. The only other Skyhawks player in double-figures there was Anthony Thomas with 15 points, four rebounds and one assist.
TN-Martin is 0-5 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home versus a team with a winning road record. The over is 4-1 in the Skyhawks’ last five home games and the under is 4-1 in their last five after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Bruins are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. Belmont is 8-2-1 ATS in the last 11 after an ATS win and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Belmont in this one. The Bruins have been quite impressive all season, notching 73 or more points in eight of their 10 games so far. Even though it took them a while to shake off Murray State in their last game, Belmont still ended up cruising to a 13-point win. Tennessee Martin has put up a few dud scoring outings lately, but should be able to hang around for a while here. That said I like the Bruins to pull away and cover in the second.
