The Toledo Rockets and the Western Michigan Broncos meet Saturday in college basketball action from University Arena.
Toledo enters this one at 7-3 on the year. The Rockets have won four straight games versus UMKC, Marshall, Valparaiso and Northern Illinois. As for Western Michigan, they’re 2-5 this season. The Broncos are coming off an eight-point loss to Ball State in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Toledo opened up the year with a 1-2 record, beating Oakland while falling to Bradley and Xavier. Wins over Cleveland State and Eastern Michigan followed for the Rockets before a 20-point loss to Michigan. Since then it’s been wins over UMKC, Marshall, Valparaiso and Northern Illinois.
In the 78-55 win over the Huskies, Toledo’s leading scorer was Spencer Littleson with 18 points, one rebound and one assist. Ryan Rollins logged a double-double in that one with 16 points, 11 rebounds and two assists, while Mattia Acunzo managed 15 points with six boards.
Over on the Western Michigan side, it’s been a pretty rough ride so far. The Broncos opened with consecutive losses to Butler and Michigan State, then got a win over Adrian before two more losses to Detroit and Milwaukee. Since then it’s been a win over Central Michigan and a loss to Ball State.
In the loss to the Cardinals, Western Michigan’s top scorer was B. Artis White with 20 points, three rebounds and two assists. Rafael Cruz added 18 points with seven rebounds and two assists, while Jason Whitens chipped in 10 points with four rebounds in 27 minutes of play.
The Broncos are 2-5 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four versus a team with a winning straight-up record. The under is 4-1 in Western Michigan’s last five Saturday games and the over is 4-1 in their last five after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Rockets are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 overall and 6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. The over is 4-0 in Toledo’s last four road games and 4-0 in their last four Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Toledo in this one. Western Michigan has been fairly competitive at times in their losses this season, but they’ve also had some dud games like 57 points versus Detroit and 63 against Milwaukee. The Broncos are going to have to be great on offense to keep up with the Rockets, who have notched 70 or more points in eight of their last nine games. I like Toledo to get it going on the scoreboard and roll to a cover here.
