Navy kicked off the season with a 78-71 win over George Washington, but then fell big to Maryland in game two 82-52. The Midshipmen were able to regroup and bounce back with victories in their next two outings. Those came 73-67 to Mount St. Mary’s and 78-71 to Georgetown.
In Saturday’s game, Navy came back from a 37-33 halftime deficit to bang out a 78-69 win and move to 4-1 on the year. Topping the scoring for the Midshipmen was Cam Davis on 26 points, four rebounds and three assists. Richard Njoku added 13 points and seven boards as well.
Over on the Bucknell side, they’re coming off a 14-20 record overall last year, with an 8-10 mark in Patriot League play. That result left the Bison in a tie for sixth place in the conference standings. The Bison took out Holy Cross and American in the Patriot League Tournament before falling to Boston U in the semifinals.
In Saturday’s game, Bucknell couldn’t hold their halftime lead, giving up 45 second-half points to the Midshipmen. Leading the scoring for the Bison in that one was Andrew Funk with 16 points, three assists and five rebounds. Xander Rice added 13 points with five assists and two boards.
Bucknell is 5-1 ATS in their last six Sunday games and 4-2 ATS in their last six games overall. The under is 4-0 in the Bison’s last four Sunday games and 20-4-1 in their last 27 overall.
Meanwhile, the Midshipmen are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 7-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The over is 6-2 in Navy’s last eight road games and 5-1 in their last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Navy. The Midshipmen are pretty competent scorers this season, notching 73 or more points in three of their first four games. Saturday’s game was a little rough for the Midshipmen at first, but they were able to find a groove after halftime and notch a nice 78-point total. I expect Bucknell to play a little better in this one, but I still like Navy better on a cover.
