The Monmouth Hawks and the Siena Saints meet Sunday in college basketball action from Times Union Center.
Monmouth enters this game at 3-2 so far. The Hawks have won consecutive games, both over Canisius. As for Siena, this will be their first game of the 2020-21 college basketball season. The Saints managed to go 20-10 overall last year. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Monmouth has had some mixed results on the court this year. The Hawks opened with a 96-88 loss to Hofstra, but then got a win in a tough game two 78-76 versus Saint Peter’s. After a 78-76 loss to Saint Peter’s, it was another win over Canisius 84-66. On Monday Monmouth did it again, this time 97-69.
In the December 28 win over Canisius, Monmouth’s top scorers were Deion Hammond and Donovann Toatley, each with 16 points and a combined three assists with eight rebounds. Marcus McClarry chipped in 11 points, and Klemen Vuga had 10 points with six boards and two assists.
Over on the Siena side, they’re coming off a 20-10 overall record last year with a 15-5 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. That result earned the Saints a MAAC championship. Siena finished the year on a 10-game winning streak before the remainder of the conference tournament was called off.
Siena has had a difficult time getting onto the court this season. The Saints have had five games versus Fairfield, Canisius and Drexel pushed back. The good news is that Siena retains three starters and a handful of role-players from last year and should be competitive if they can just get some games in the books.
Siena is 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine Sunday games. The Saints are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and the under is 8-2 in their last 10 overall.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Sunday games and 3-0-1 ATS in their last four overall. The over is 5-1 in Monmouth’s last six overall and 7-1 in their last eight Sunday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Monmouth. I’m staying away from this one in reality, though; we’ve got to see what Siena looks like on the court first. That said, Monmouth has been scoring pretty well this year in their five games, with 76 or more in every outing. The Hawks posted 181 combined points against Canisius in their last two games and seem to be finding a good rhythm on offense. Siena will be an interesting challenge, but I think the Hawks are up to it.
