The Wyoming Cowboys and the Fresno State Bulldogs meet Monday in college basketball action from Save Mart Center.
Wyoming enters this one at 7-1 so far. The Cowboys are riding a six-game winning streak, taking out Utah Valley, Omaha and Fresno State in their last three games. As for the Bulldogs, they’re 2-3 this year. Fresno State has lost three straight outings to Colorado State (twice) and Wyoming. Wyoming opened up the year with a win over MS Valley State but then fell 76-74 to Texas Southern in game two. Since then it’s been six straight wins for the Cowboys. Those have come against Incarnate Word, Oregon State, Denver, Utah Valley, Omaha and Fresno State.
In the Saturday win over the Bulldogs, Wyoming’s Hunter Thompson topped the team on 22 points with three rebounds and one assist. Both Hunter Maldonado and Marcus Williams managed 13 points apiece, combining for seven rebounds and seven assists as well.
Over on the Fresno State side, it’s been a rough skid lately. The Bulldogs opened the year with wins over William Jessup and Fresno Pacific but have lost three straight since then. Those defeats came 75-53 to Colorado State, 81-59 to Colorado State and 78-74 to Wyoming on Saturday.
In the loss to the Cowboys, Fresno State’s top scorer was Deon Stroud with 19 points, five rebounds and one assist. Isaiah Hill posted 17 points with three assists, and Orlando Robinson managed 15 points with five rebounds and three assists. Devin Gage chipped in 12 points with three boards and three assists as well.
Fresno State is 0-3-1 ATS in their last four Monday games and 1-4 ATS in the last five after a straight-up loss. The Bulldogs are 7-19-1 ATS in the last 27 home games and 0-5 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games overall and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 road games. Wyoming is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS win and the over is 14-2 in their last 16 road games.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Fresno State in this one. We should have another competitive matchup on our hands here, though. In Saturday’s game, Fresno State held the edge in field goal percentage (49.1 to 43.1) and rebounds (35-30) but only shot 5-of-16 on 3-pointers to Wyoming’s 12-of-30 clip. The Bulldogs’ 16 turnovers didn’t help either. In any case, I like Fresno to bounce back with a good game here and bag a cover/win.
