The Boston Univ. Terriers and Holy Cross Crusaders meet Monday in college basketball action at the Hart Center.
The Boston Univ. Terriers won 21 games last season and ended the year with four straight wins. Walter Whyte returns after averaging 13 points and 7.4 rebounds while Javante McCoy averaged 12.2 points and 3.5 assists. Jonas Harper returns after averaging 28.3 minutes per game last season and Alex Vilarino played 18.6 minutes in 29 games. The Boston Univ. Terriers say goodbye to their best player last year in Max Mahoney, but they return four of their top five players overall. Boston has to like its chances at a highly successful season and build on last years success.
The Holy Cross Crusaders won three games last year and haven’t won a game since January 22 of last year. Austin Butler returns after averaging 11.8 points and 6.2 rebounds while Matt Faw averaged 8.6 points and 4.2 rebounds. Ryan Wade returns after averaging 30.7 minutes per game last year and Joey Reilly played in 17 games last season. The Holy Cross Crusaders will miss their top two players in Joe Pridgen and Drew Lowder, but they do have a double-digit scorer in Butler and an experienced guard in Wade who saw a ton of reps last year. It’s hard to get excited with Holy Cross after just three wins last season, but there’s potential here with some of the returning production.
The Terriers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Crusaders are 7-20 ATS in their last 27 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Monday games. The under is 5-2 in Terriers last 7 overall. The under is 5-1 in Crusaders last 6 overall.
It's tough to handicap a game when we've seen neither team play yet, and the added rust only makes things that much trickier, as the long layoff for both sides could lead to ugly basketball. However, the Boston Univ. Terriers returns a good portion of a team that won 21 games, while Holy Cross is missing some key production from a squad that won just three games. On paper, Boston should win this game comfortably. I'll lay the chalk.
