The Hampton Pirates and the Radford Highlanders meet in college basketball action from Donald N. Dedmon Center on Monday night.
The Hampton Pirates will look to bounce back and get back to .500 after splitting their back-to-back set with Gardner-Webb following an 80-69 loss last time out. Davion Warren leads the Pirates in scoring with 19.7 PPG to go along with 6.2 RPG, 3.2 APG and 2.3 steals per game this season. Chris Shelton is 2nd on the team in scoring with 12.1 PPG, shooting 50% from the floor and 46.9% from 3-point range. Russell Dean is 3rd in scoring and tops in assists with 10.1 PPG and 7.1 APG to go along with his 4.3 RPG this season while Edward Oliver-Hampton has 10 PPG to go along with his team-leading 7.7 RPG this season as Hampton’s 4th double-digit scorer heading into Monday’s action. Marquis Godwin has 8.3 PPG and 4.2 RPG and Dajour Dickens has 7.9 PPG and 5.9 RPG this season. As a team, Hampton is averaging 70 PPG on 40.9% shooting from the field, 31.4% from 3-point range and 65.8% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 73.4 points on 43.3% shooting from the field and 32.8% from 3-point range this season.
The Radford Highlanders come into this game at 4-6 on the year after ending up with a 65-63 loss to Presbyterian in their last game. Fah’Mir Ali leads Radford with 9.8 PPG this season as well as in the assists department with 2.8 APG this season while Quinton Morton-Robertson has 8.9 PPG and 2.9 RPG and Lewis Djonkam has 7.4 PPG with 5.7 RPG this season. Chyree Walker leads Radford on the glass, putting up a team-high 6.9 RPG to go along with his 6.3 PPG this season. As a team, Radford is averaging 63.6 points per game on 43.2% shooting from the field, 28.4% from behind the 3-point line and 67.6% from the free throw line while allowing opposing teams to average 62.2 points on 40% shooting from the field and 37.2% from behind the 3-point line this season.
Hampton is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. The under is 4-1 in Radford’s last 5 games following a loss and 5-2-1 in their last 8 games overall. The underdog is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
It’s hard to truly get a feel for either of these teams as both have had their share of ups and downs, home and away this season, while Radford struggles on offense but makes up for it with their defense. With that said, I’m not overly comfortable laying this many points with a team scoring just 63.2 PPG this season and the Highlanders have been held under that average in all but two games against D-I opposition this season. Even counting the losses, Hampton’s scored at least 67 in six of their nine games this season, so I think at worst, Hampton sneaks and keeps this one close if not wins it outright.
