Radford vs Hampton College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 3/1/21

The Hampton Pirates and the Radford Highlanders meet Monday in college basketball action from Dedmon Center. 

Hampton enters this Big South Tournament matchup at 11-13 so far. The Pirates have won consecutive games versos Longwood and Presbyterian. As for Radford, they’re 14-11 this year. Hampton has been flirting with .500 for most of the season, but haven’t been able to get over the proverbial hump to a winning record. The Pirates are 2-3 in their last five, losing to Longwood and Campbell before notching wins over Longwood and Presbyterian. 

In the 67-65 tournament win over Presbyterian on Saturday, Hampton’s Davion Warren put up 19 points with six rebounds and three assists. Russell Dean added 17 points with five assist and three rebounds in that one as well. 

Over on the Radford side, they kicked off the season on a pretty solid run through their first 20 games, going 13-7 in that stretch. The Highlanders are just 1-5 since then, however. There were two losses to both Winthrop and Gardner-Webb before the win over Mount Aloysius. 

In the 74-51 victory on Wednesday, Radford’s Shaquan Jules put up 14 points with nine rebounds to lead the team. Bryan Hart added 13 points with five boards, and both Chyree Walker and Dravon Mangum put up 12 points apiece. 

Radford is 0-4 ATS in their last four home games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Monday games. The Highlanders are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 as a favorite and the under is 5-2 in their last seven overall. 

Meanwhile, the Pirates are 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four after a straight-up win. The over is 5-1 in Hampton’s last six road games and 6-2 in their last eight after a straight-up win. 

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Hampton here. The Highlanders won both games the last time these teams met up back in early January, taking one 79-66 and the other 76-65. Radford hasn’t scored all that well recently though, notching 64 or fewer points in four of their last five outings. If Hampton can get off to a nice start here and stay in rhythm I can see them banging out a cover. Should be a fun game.
