The Campbell Fighting Camels and the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Paul Porter Arena.
Campbell enters this game at 5-5 overall. As for Gardner-Webb, they’re sitting at 2-6 this year. This will be a rematch of Monday’s game featuring these teams. In that one, Campbell managed a nine-point victory. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Campbell opened up the year on a 4-0 run, taking out St. Andrews, Jacksonville, New Orleans and Florida National. The Camels ran into some issues after that however, and a losing streak began. Campbell dropped their next five games to Elon, NC State, UNC-Wilmington and Winthrop (twice).
In Monday’s game, Campbell was able to post 38 points in the second half on the way to a 70-61 victory. Leading the scoring for the Camels was Messiah Thompson with 15 points, four rebounds, one assist and a steal. Ricky Clemons added 11 points and three boards off the bench.
Over on the Gardner-Webb side, they kicked off their season with a three game losing streak. Those defeats came courtesy of Western Kentucky, Pittsburgh and East Tennessee State. After a win over VMI, the Bulldogs fell to Florida State and split a pair of games against Hampton.
In the Monday loss, Gardner-Webb was within two points at halftime but couldn’t close the gap in the second. Tops in scoring for the Bulldogs was Jacob Falko with 18 points, six rebounds and one assist. Anthony Selden added 16 points with five rebounds and one assist on 6-of-11 shooting.
The Bulldogs are 5-1 ATS in their last six home games and 11-6 ATS in their last 17 games overall. The over is 6-2 in Gardner-Webb’s last eight home games and 8-2 in their last 10 games as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Camels are 4-7-1 ATS in their last 12 games as a road underdog of 0.5-6.5 and the over is 5-3-1 in their last nine road games. The over is 8-2-1 in Campbell’s last 11 Tuesday games as well.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Campbell in this one. The Camels have had some scoring duds in the books this year, and they recently went through a three-game streak with 59 or fewer points in every outing. That said, Campbell notched 159 combined points in the Winthrop games. Monday’s outing was another good one, with 70 points and a nice second-half effort. Should be another great matchup here.
