The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Kentucky Wildcats meet in SEC college basketball action from Rupp Arena on Tuesday night.
The Vanderbilt Commodores will look to bounce back after a 91-72 loss to Florida last time out, dropping to 4-3 on the year in the process. Scotty Pippen Jr. leads the Commodores in scoring with 22.6 PPG, shooting 45% from the field and 39.5% from 3-point range, while also leading the ‘Dores in assists with 4.6 APG and steals with 1.9 steals per game. Dylan Disu is 2nd in scoring with 11.4 PPG as well as a team-high 8.9 RPG and Myles Stute is putting up 10 PPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Vanderbilt this season coming into Tuesday’s matchup. As a team, Vanderbilt is averaging 73 PPG on 43.2% shooting from the field, 33.3% from 3-point range and 76.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 67.9 PPG on 44% shooting from the field and 30.7% from 3-point range this season.
The Kentucky Wildcats will try to pick up some steam after a 78-73 overtime win over Mississippi State last time out. Brandon Boston Jr. leads the Wildcats with 13.6 PPG in addition to putting up 5.9 RPG this season while Terrence Clarke is averaging 10.7 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Kentucky heading into Tuesday’s matchup. Davion Mintz has 9.9 PPG and a team-high 3 APG while Olivier Sarr has 9.8 PPG and Isaiah Jackson leads Kentucky with 7.6 RPG this season. As a team, Kentucky is averaging 66.5 PPG on 41.5% shooting from the field, 29.1% from behind the arc and 64.6% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 67.4 PPG on 40.6% shooting from the field and 28% from 3-point range this season.
Vanderbilt is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Kentucky is 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 home games against a team with a losing road record while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record. The underdog is 12-4-1 ATS in the last 17 meetings between these two teams.
I’ve gone back and forth on this game as Kentucky’s not a team I want to lay double digits with, but this also feels like the kind of game that Vandy could lose by 20. With that said, neither side’s done much to impress on the offensive end this season and I need to see the offenses improve on both sides before instilling any sort of confidence one way or another. I’ll back the under in this one.
