The Connecticut Huskies and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Fiserv Forum.
Connecticut enters this game at 4-1 so far. The Huskies took a loss to Creighton on December 20 but bounced back with a win over DePaul in their last game. As for Marquette, they’re 6-5 this year. The Eagles broke a three-game losing streak with a win over Georgetown in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Connecticut kicked off the year with three straight wins. Those victories came 102-75 over Central Connecticut State, 69-57 over Hartford and 61-58 over USC. After that came a tough 76-74 loss to Creighton and a big 82-61 victory over DePaul back on Wednesday.
In the win over the Demons, Connecticut’s Tyrese Martin posted 22 points with 10 rebounds and three assists. James Bouknight added 20 points with four rebounds and three assists, while Josh Carlton doubled up on 11 points with 10 boards for the Huskies.
Over on the Marquette side, they opened up the year at 4-1 in their first five with a loss to Oklahoma State as the only blemish. After a loss to UCLA and a big win over Creighton, the Eagles lost to Seton Hall, Xavier and Villanova before getting a 64-60 win over Georgetown on Saturday.
In the win over the Hoyas, Marquette’s top scorer was Jamal Cain with 25 points and six rebounds. Justin Lewis added 10 points with seven rebounds in 28 minutes, and Dawson Garcia led the team on 13 rebounds with nine points in 35 minutes on the court.
The Eagles are 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. Marquette is 0-4 ATS in their last four Tuesday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win. The over is 11-4 in Connecticut’s last 15 overall and 5-1 in their last six road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Connecticut in this one. The Huskies have been dominant in three of their four wins, and it took overtime for Creighton to get rid of them. Connecticut has been scoring pretty well overall as well, with 69 or more points in four of five games. As for Marquette, they’ve cooled off a bit since their win over Creighton, and shot a tepid 39.1 percent from the field in the Georgetown game. I think the Eagles can hang around for a while here but this should be Connecticut’s cover to take.
