The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Miami Hurricanes meet in college basketball action from the Watsco Center on Tuesday night.
The North Carolina Tar Heels will look to build on a 66-65 win over Notre Dame in their last matchup, climbing to 6-4 on the year. Armando Bacot leads the Tar Heels in scoring and rebounding with an average of 11.4 PPG and 8.2 RPG while Garrison Brooks is 2nd in both categories with 10.6 PPG and 7.8 RPG this season. Caleb Love has 10.2 PPG and a team-high 3.4 APG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for UNC heading into this game. Day’Ron Sharpe is contributing 9.6 PPG and 7.4 RPG this season as well for the Tar Heels. As a team, North Carolina is averaging 72.8 PPG on 42.6% shooting from the field, 28.7% from 3-point range and 67.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 68.2 points on 42.5% shooting from the field and 35.8% from 3-point range this season.
The Miami Hurricanes will look to bounce back and get above .500 after falling back to 4-4 on the year after a 66-65 loss to Clemson last time out. Isaiah Wong leads Miami in scoring with 17.9 PPG while also logging 5.9 RPG this season. Chris Lykes has 15.5 PPG with 5.5 APG but he’s only played in two games this season. Kameron McGusty has also taken the floor just 5 times but has also contributed 10.2 PPG this season. Harlond Beverly has 9 PPG, 4.1 APG and 6.6 RPG and Nysier Brooks has a team-high 6.8 RPG this season. As a team, Miami is averaging 68.8 PPG on 43.7% shooting from the field, 28% from 3-point range and 66.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 64.9 PPG on 40.4% shooting from the field and 34.9% from 3-point range this season.
North Carolina is 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 5-14-1 ATS in their last 20 games following a win while the under is 20-8 in their last 28 road games. Miami is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Tuesday games while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 home games. The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Maybe someone’s trying to tell me something with North Carolina being favored on the road, but I know what I’ve seen and North Carolina continues to be overvalued in my opinion as this Tar Heel team continues to struggle on offense and has issues consistently making shots. On the other side, Miami has been banged up all season long, but it hasn’t kept the Hurricanes from battling and the Hurricanes did just barely lose to Clemson by one, a Clemson team that I hold in much higher regard than North Carolina right now. Also given UNC’s current form (1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 overall), I can’t lay points on the road. I think Miami battles to another close result here, so give me Miami and the points in this one.
