The Hampton Pirates and the Radford Highlanders meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Dedmon Center.
Hampton comes into this one at 4-6 so far. As for Radford, they’re currently 5-6 on the season. This will be a rematch of Monday’s game featuring these teams. In that one, Radford managed a 13-point victory. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Hampton opened the year with a win over George Washington but then fell in four straight games. After that came three straight wins for the Pirates over Charleston Southern (twice) and Gardner-Webb. Hampton took a loss to the Bulldogs in the New Year’s Eve rematch, however.
In Monday’s game, the Pirates fell behind 46-34 at the half and couldn’t make up the deficit in an eventual 79-66 defeat. Hampton’s top scorer was Russell Dean with 22 points, nine assists and four rebounds in 40 minutes on the floor. Chris Shelton and Davion Warren contributed 12 points apiece as well.
Over on the Radford side, they began their season with four straight losses to Virginia Tech, Norfolk State, James Madison and East Carolina. The Highlanders then went on a three-game winning streak versus Mars Hill and Longwood (twice). After that came a loss to Vanderbilt and two split games versus Presbyterian.
In the victory Monday, Radford’s Dravon Mangum led the team on a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Lewis Djonkam and Fah’Mir Ali each posted 16 points for the Highlanders, combining for 10 assists and nine rebounds.
The Highlanders are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games as a home favorite of 0.5-6.5 and 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 games as a favorite of 7.0-12.5. The under is 5-3-1 in Radford’s last nine overall and the over is 11-4 in their last 15 games as a home favorite.
Meanwhile, Hampton is 5-1 ATS in their last six Tuesday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games. The under is 8-2 in the Pirates’ last 10 Tuesday games and 4-1 in their last five road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Hampton in this one. The Highlanders have been pretty sketchy this season when it comes to scoring, with 67 points or fewer in six of their first eight games. The Pirates had been at 67 or above in their previous five games leading up to the Monday matchup. That game was a dud for the Pirates however, and Radford posted a pretty darn great outing across the board. I think Hampton will make some adjustments here and pull off a more well-rounded appearance, though.
