The Iowa State Cyclones and the Texas Longhorns meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Frank Erwin Center.
Iowa State enters this one at 2-4 on the year. The Cyclones managed a win over Jackson State on December 20, but fell to Baylor in their last appearance. As for Texas, they’re 8-1 this season. The Longhorns are riding a four-game winning streak, most recently taking out Kansas on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Iowa State opened up the year with a win over AR-Pine Bluff, but then promptly went on a four-game losing streak versus SD State, Iowa, Kansas State and West Virginia. The Cyclones then managed a 60-45 win over Jackson State, but fell to Baylor 76-65 on Saturday in their latest outing.
In the loss to the Bears, Iowa State’s Javan Johnson posted 17 points with three rebounds to lead the team in scoring. Solomon Young added 15 points with four rebounds and one assist, while Rasir Bolton managed 14 points with eight rebounds and six assists.
Over on the Texas side, they kicked off their year with four straight wins over UT Rio Grande Valley, Davidson, Indiana and North Carolina. The Longhorns then lost 68-64 to Villanova, but went on a four-game win streak afterward against Texas State, Sam Houston, Oklahoma State and Kansas.
In the win over the Jayhawks, Texas’ Courtney Ramey led the way on 18 points with four rebounds and two assists. Andrew Jones added 14 points with seven rebounds and three assists, while Jericho Sims recorded a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Longhorns.
Texas is 7-15 ATS in their last 22 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. The under is 21-5 in the Longhorns’ last 26 Tuesday games and 5-2 in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Cyclones are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games. Iowa State is 5-16 ATS in their last 21 after an ATS win and the under is 5-2 in the last seven games overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Iowa State here. Texas has been rolling right along in their last four wins, with only one of them being less than double-digits (77-74 versus OK State) and a huge statement win over the Jayhawks in their last appearance. That said, the Longhorns have had a few close escapes this year, and Iowa State has been able to hang around in a couple games they shouldn’t have—namely 70-65 against West Virginia. The Cyclones don’t have much chance of winning, but they do have enough offense to get in there, I think.
