Oklahoma kicked off the season with consecutive wins over UTSA and TCU. After a 99-77 loss to Xavier, the Sooners beat Florida A&M, Oral Roberts and Houston Baptist. Oklahoma took a two-point loss to Texas Tech, but bounced back with a nice 75-71 win over West Virginia in their last game on Saturday.
In the victory over the Mountaineers, Oklahoma’s top scorer was Umoja Gibson on 29 points with five rebounds and two assists. Austin Reaves added 13 points with four boards and three assists, and De’Vion Harmon chipped in 10 points, four assists and three rebounds in 29 minutes on the court.
Over on the Baylor side, it’s been smooth sailing so far. The Bears took out Louisiana, Washington, Illinois, Stephen F. Austin, Kansas State and AR-Pine Bluff in their first six games. Since then it’s been three more wins over Central Arkansas, Alcorn State and Iowa State.
In the 76-65 win over Iowa State, Baylor’s top performer was Jared Butler with 21 points, five assists and one rebound. Both MaCio Teague and Davion Mitchell posted 13 points apiece, combining for seven rebounds and two assists as well. Flo Thamba added 10 points with four rebounds in 13 minutes for the Bears there.
The Bears are 5-1 ATS in their last six Wednesday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six home games. Baylor is 6-2 ATS in the last eight following a straight-up win and 7-2 ATS in the last nine games overall.
Meanwhile, the Sooners are 1-5 ATS in the last six games after a straight-up win and the under is 4-1 in their last five overall. The over is 5-0-1 in Oklahoma’s last six road games and the under is 8-3 in their last 11 Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Oklahoma here. The Sooners have been standing tall against top-shelf competition over their last two games, hanging right with Texas Tech and recording a win over West Virginia. Oklahoma shot 42.2 percent from the field in their last outing, out-rebounding the Mountaineers 41-36 as well. Baylor has been taking care of business as usual lately, but they haven’t played a worthy opponent in the last half-dozen games. I think the Sooners can hang in there and cover. This should be a pretty great matchup.
