The Air Force Falcons and the Boise State Broncos meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Taco Bell Arena.
Air Force enters this one at 3-5 so far. The Falcons have lost consecutive games in their last two appearances, both to Utah State. As for Boise State, they’re sitting at 8-1 this year. The Broncos are riding an eight-game win streak, most recently taking out San Jose State on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Air Force opened the year at 2-1 with a loss to Seattle between wins over CSU Northridge and Lamar. Since then it’s been a 1-4 run for the Falcons, with a win over Nevada as the only bright spot among losses to Drake, Nevada, and twice to Utah State 83-48 and 72-53.
In the Saturday loss to the Aggies, Air Force’s top scorer was AJ Walker with 19 points, five rebounds and one assist. Christopher Joyce added 11 points with one assist and three rebounds, while Nikc Jackson chipped in eight points with five boards and two assists.
Over on the Broncos’ side, they opened up their season with a disappointing 68-58 loss to Houston, but it’s been smooth sailing from there. In their last eight outings, Boise State has taken out Sam Houston, College of Idaho, BYU, Weber State, New Mexico (twice) and San Jose State (twice).
In the 87-86 Saturday win over San Jose State, Boise State’s top scorer was Derrick Alston, who doubled up on 20 poitns, 10 rebounds and three assists. Abu Kigab added 13 points with seven rebounds and three assists, and Mladen Armus also doubled up with 10 points and 10 boards.
The Broncos are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 home games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall. Boise State is 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 5-0 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Falcons are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 after an ATS loss and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games. Air Force is 3-8 ATS in the last 11 road games and 5-17 ATS in the last 22 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Boise State here. The Broncos were a little sketchy against San Jose State in their last game, coughing up 52 points in the second half and nearly giving the game away. That said, boise has also scored well this season, posting 70 or more points in each of their last eight. As for Air Force, they haven’t been able to get their offense going this year and haven’t scored more than 68 points in any game yet. On paper anyway, this should be a big Broncos cover.
