The VCU Rams and the George Mason Patriots meet Wednesday in college basketball action from EagleBank Arena.
VCU enters this one at 8-2 on the season. The Rams have won six straight games, most recently taking out Saint Joseph’s on December 30. As for George Mason, they’re 5-3 this year. The Patriots are 1-2 in the last three games, with a win UMass between losses to Norfolk State and Dayton. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
VCU kicked off the year at 2-2, with losses to West Virginia and Penn State mixed in with wins over Utah State and Memphis. Since then it’s been smooth sailing for the Rams, however. They’ve taken out Mount St. Mary’s, NC A&T, Old Dominion, WCU, James Madison and Saint Joseph’s in their last six.
In the 80-64 win over Saint Joseph’s, VCU’s top scorer was Vince Williams on 17 points with seven rebounds. Adrian Baldwin added 12 points with four rebounds and one assist, while both Levi Stockard and KeShawn Curry chipped in 10 points apiece for the Rams.
Over on the George Mason side, they opened up the year at 4-1 with a loss to Belmont and wins over Queens NC, Howard, VMI and Towson. Since then it’s been a loss to Norfolk State, a win over UMass and a loss to Dayton for the Patriots in their last three games.
In the 74-65 loss to the Flyers, George Mason’s leading scorer was Tyler Kolek with 16 points, three assists and two rebounds. Jordan Miller added 15 points with five rebounds and two assists, while both Javon Greene and AJ Wilson posted 13 points apiece for the Patriots.
The Patriots are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games. George Mason is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall and the under is 6-1 in their last seven home games.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 7-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. VCU is 4-0 ATS in their last four Wednesday games and the under is 4-0 in their last four road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with VCU here. George Mason has been a little spotty when it comes to putting up points this year. The Patriots have been at 68 or below in five of eight appearances so far, and hit just 65 against Dayton. VCU’s offense has been more reliable with 77 or more in each of their last five outings. I like George Mason to hang around during the first half in this one, with VCU stretching the floor in the second half for a cover.
