The Rhode Island Rams and the Richmond Spiders meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Robins Center.
Rhode Island comes into this one at 5-5 so far. The Rams have won consecutive games over St. Bonaventure and Saint Joseph’s. As for Richmond, they’re sitting at 7-3 this year. The Spiders have lost two of their last three games, most recently to St. Bonaventure. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Rhode Island opened up the season with consecutive losses to Arizona State and Boston College, but then rattled off three straight wins over South Florida, San Francisco and Seton Hall. After three straight losses to Wisconsin, Western Kentucky and Davidson, the Rams have taken out St. Bonaventure and Saint Joseph’s in their last pair.
In the 85-77 win over Saint Joseph’s, Rhode Island’s Daron Russell put up 20 points with eight rebounds and eight assists. Makhel Mitchell added 15 points with eight rebounds in 26 minutes of action, and DJ Johnson chipped in 11 points with three boards for the Rams.
Over on the Richmond side, they kicked off the year with four wins over Morehead State, Kentucky, Wofford and Northern Iowa. After a loss to West Virginia and wins over Vanderbilt and Loyola IL, the Spiders have a win over Davidson sandwiched between losses to Hofstra and St. Bonaventure in their last three.
In the loss to the Bonnies, Richmond’s top scorer was Blake Francis with 21 points, three assists and one rebound. Jacob Gilyard added 13 points with four assists and one rebound, and Nathan Cayo managed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Spiders are 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss and 6-1 ATS in the last seven Wednesday games. Richmond is 5-0 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and the under is 14-6 in their last 20 home games.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 road games and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. Rhode Island is 15-5-2 ATS in their last 22 Wednesday games and the under is 17-8 in their last 25 Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Richmond here. The Rams have had a pretty up-and-down season so far, but they’ve played well in their last pair with two solid wins. Rhode Island hasn’t scored all that well this year though, with 65 or fewer in four of their last five games. The Spiders scored just 66 in their last game but had notched 71 or more in each of the nine games prior. I like Richmond to bounce back with a nice cover here.
