Texas A&M kicked off their year with three straight wins, taking out New Orleans, Tarleton State and UT Rio Grande Valley. After a blowout loss to TCU, the Aggies beat SE Louisiana and Wofford before falling big to LSU. On Saturday in their last outing, Texas A&M beat Auburn 68-66.
In the win over the Tigers, Texas A&M’s Emanuel Miller posted 16 points with one assist and five rebounds. Both Andre Gordon and Jay Jay Chandler notched 10 points apiece, combing for four assists and five rebounds. Quenton Jackson chipped in nine points in 19 minutes as well.
Over on the Gamecocks’ side, they opened the year with a 78-62 loss to Liberty. South Carolina got their first win in game two over Tulsa 69-58, then fell to Houston 77-67. Nearly a month later the Gamecocks got to play game four, this one a 78-71 victory over Florida A&M.
In the win over the Rattlers, South Carolina’s AJ Lawson posted 25 points with five rebounds. Jermaine Couisnard added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Justin Minaya logged a double-double on 10 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes for the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. South Carolina is 6-2 ATS in the last eight after an ATS loss and the over is 9-1 in their last 10 games overall.
Meanwhile, the Aggies are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in the last five after a straight-up win. Texas A&M is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall and the under is 5-0 in their last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Texas A&M here. This should be a pretty intriguing matchup and a fun one to watch, however. In any case, the Gamecocks have started out a bit slow this year, with 69 or fewer points in each of their first three games. The long layoff seemed to help that, though; South Carolina put up 78 against the Rattlers in their last appearance. As for the Aggies, they’ve had a couple of dud games in their losses but otherwise are playing well overall this season. I like Texas A&M’s offense to bang out a nice cover here and keep the momentum going.
