The Central Connecticut Blue Devils and the Bryant Bulldogs meet in college basketball action from Chace Athletic Center on Thursday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut Blue Devils will look to build off of a 78-59 win over Saint Francis (Brooklyn) to improve to 2-5 on the year. Greg Outlaw leads the Blue Devils in scoring and rebounding, posting an average of 12.5 PPG and 5.5 RPG while Tre Mitchell comes into this one as the only other double-digit scorer for Central Connecticut, logging 12 PPG on 53.6% shooting from the floor. Nigel Scantlebury is just outside of making it a trio of double-digit scorers with 9.9 PPG and a team-high 4.6 APG and Ian Krishnan isn’t far off either, logging 9.7 PPG. As a team, Central Connecticut is averaging 75.1 PPG on 46.8% shooting from the field, 36.6% from 3-point range and 68.8% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 82.4 PPG on 48.4% shooting from the field and 39.1% from 3-point range this season.
The Bryant Bulldogs will try to add to their 7-1 mark after a 93-88 win over UMass in their last matchup. Michael Green III leads the Bulldogs in scoring and assists with 18.7 PPG and 4.7 APG to go along with 4.1 RPG while Peter Kiss is close by in 2nd with 17.4 PPG and 4.8 RPG this season. Chris Childs has 15 PPG, shooting 47.6% from 3-point range and Charles Pride has 14 PPG to go along with a team-high 7.8 RPG to make up the group of double-digit scorers for Bryant heading into this matchup. Hall Elisias also has 8.7 PPG and 7.1 RPG to contribute to the effort for Bryant this season. As a team, Bryant is averaging 92.9 PPG on 49.3% shooting from the field, 42.5% from 3-point range and 75.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 80.6 PPG on 41.5% shooting from the field and 27.5% from 3-point range this season.
Central Connecticut is 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 Thursday games. Bryant is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall. The underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I think that Central Connecticut’s best chance to win this game or at least keep it close is to try to slow down the pace, but between to teams allowing 80+ PPG, I’m not sure I see it happening. I envision a track meet here with a ton of run and gun and as such, I’ll take the over here as well as leaning to Bryant for the side.
