The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels and the Colorado State Rams meet Thursday in college basketball action from Moby Arena.
UNLV enters this one at 1-4 so far. The Rebels opened with a four-game losing streak before beating Kansas State in their last outing. As for Colorado State, they’re currently 6-2 this year. The Rams had a four-game win streak snapped by San Diego State in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
UNLV began the year on an ugly skid over their first quartet, but were able to right the ship in their last game. The Rebels kicked off with losses to Montana State, North Carolina, Alabama and Davidson, but managed a solid 68-58 victory over Kansas State in their last game December 5.
In the win over the Wildcats, UNLV’s top scorer was David Jenkins on 25 points with two rebounds. Bryce Hamilton notched 18 points with six assists and eight boards, while Caleb Grill chipped in 12 points, four rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes on the court.
Over on the Colorado State side, they got wins over CSU-Pueblo and Northern Arizona before falling to Saint Mary’s in game three. After that came wins over Santa Clara, Fresno State (twice) and San Diego State. The Aztecs got revenge on the Rams in the rematch, though; Colorado State lost that one 78-65.
In the Monday loss to the Aztecs, Colorado State’s top scorers were David Roddy and John Tonje, each with 15 points and a combined seven rebounds and one assist. Isaiah Stevens nearly tripled up in that one with 11 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in 40 minutes of action.
The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 23-7 ATS in their last 30 Thursday games. The over is 14-6 in Colorado State’s last 20 Thursday games and 9-3 in their last 12 home games.
Meanwhile, the Rebels are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The under is 5-0 in UNLV’s last five Thursday games and 6-1 in their last even versus a team with a winning percentage above .600.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Colorado State here. Sure, the Rams have had some real dud outings this season, like their 24-point first half versus San Diego State and their 33-point mess against Saint Mary’s. Otherwise the Rams have scored pretty well though: 70 or more points in each of their victories. UNLV has posted some pretty good totals themselves, but after not being on the court for over a month I’m thinking the Rebels will be rusty.
