The Montana State Bobcats and the Northern Colorado Bears meet in college basketball action from the Bank of Colorado Arena on Thursday night.
The Montana State Bobcats will look to build off of a 95-67 win over subdivision Montana Western to improve their record to 3-1 on the year. Amin Adamu leads the Bobcats in scoring and assists with 14.6 PPG and 3 APG to go along with 4.2 RPG while Xavier Bishop is 2nd on the team in scoring with 14.4 PPG including 2.8 APG and Jubrile Belo is 3rd with 13 PPG as well as logging 5.2 RPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Montana State heading into this game against the Bears. As a team, Montana State is averaging 80.7 PPG on 44.7% shooting from the field, 37.5% from 3-point range and 76.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 72.8 PPG on 39.5% shooting from the field and 33.8% from 3-point range this season.
The Northern Colorado Bears will be out to rebound from a second straight two-point game, this time ending on the wrong side of a 56-54 score line against Montana last time out. Bodie Hume leads the Bears in scoring with 17 PPG along with a team-high 7 RPG to lead the Bears on the glass while Daylen Kountz has 13 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Northern Colorado heading into Thursday’s matchup with Montana State. Kur Jockuch has 8.3 PPG and 6.3 RPG while Matt Johnson II has 8.2 PPG and a team-high 2.4 APG this season. As a team, Northern Colorado is averaging 65.7 PPG on 44.8% shooting from the field, 35.1% from 3-point range and 61.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.8 PPG on 43.6% shooting from the field and 31.1% from 3-point range this season.
Montana State is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 road games against a team with a winning home record while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Northern Colorado is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 20-7 ATS in their last 27 games following a loss while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 home games. The road team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the points with Montana State would be worth a look. However, Montana State hasn’t done much since their win over UNLV and a narrow loss to Pacific with wins over subdivision teams and a loss to Portland as well as a sizeable loss to Washington State. Northern Colorado isn’t a world better but I just think they have a lot more going than just the record this season. I think the Bears are a team to watch in the Big Sky this season so I’ll lay the points with Northern Colorado in this spot.
