The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks and the Tennessee State Tigers meet Thursday in college basketball action form Gentry Complex.
Tennessee-Martin enters this one at 3-4 so far. The Skyhawks have lost four straight games, most recently to Belmont on Saturday. As for Tennessee State, they’re 1-6 this season. The Tigers have lost three straight games, and fell to Southeast Missouri State in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Tennessee-Martin came out of the gate strong with three straight wins. Those victories came courtesy of Evansville, Bethel TN and Southeast Missouri State. Since then it’s been four straight losses for the Skyhawks however, as they’ve dropped to Western Illinois, Mississippi, Jacksonville State and Belmont.
In the loss to the Bruins, Tennessee-Martin’s top scorer was Cameron Holden with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Eden Holt added 13 points with four assists and one rebound, and Jaron Williams chipped in 11 points with five rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Tennessee State side, they began the year on a three-game skid, falling to IUPUI and Belmont twice. After a victory over Crowley’s Ridge, the Tigers lost their next three games. Those defeats came courtesy of Chattanooga, Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri State.
In the 83-79 2OT loss to the Redhawks, Tennessee State’s top performers were Marcus Fitzgerald and Ravel Moody, each with 18 points and a combined four assists and nine rebounds. Mason Green added 10 points and one rebound in 25 minutes on the court as well.
The Tigers are 0-4 ATS in their last four games after a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. Tennessee State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Skyhawks are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven Thursday games. TN-Martin is 14-29 ATS in their last 43 games after a straight-up loss and the under is 5-1 in their last six road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Tennessee-Martin here. The Tigers haven’t been scoring well this season. They’ve posted 66 points or fewer in five of their seven games so far, with the two outliers being a double-overtime loss and 90 points in a win over an overmatched Crowley’s Ridge. The Skyhawks have had their own issues, but they’ve managed to hit 69 or more points in four of their seven games. It may not be pretty but I like TN-Martin to sew up this cover.
