The Cal Poly Mustangs and the CSU-Bakersfield Roadrunners meet in college basketball action from the Icardo Center on Friday night.
The Cal Poly Mustangs will look to bounce back and get back closer to .500 after a 76-52 loss to Loyola Marymount in their last matchup. Riley Till leads the Mustangs in scoring with 12 PPG along with a team-high 7 RPG while Alimamy Koroma is 2nd in scoring with 10.8 PPG and 4.8 RPG to make up the lone pair of double-digit scorers for Cal Poly heading into Friday’s tilt with the Roadrunners. Keith Smith leads the Mustangs in the assist department with 4.3 APG to go along with his 6.7 PPG on the year. As a team, Cal Poly is averaging 69.5 PPG on 42.1% shooting from the field, 31.4% from 3-point range and 71.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 71.2 PPG on 45.1% shooting from the field and 32.5% from 3-point range this season.
The CSU-Bakersfield Roadrunners will look to add to their 89-76 win over Long Beach State in their last matchup. De’Monte Buckingham leads the Roadrunners in scoring with 10.1 PPG and 5.8 RPG as the lone player to average double-digits in scoring so far this season while Shaun Williams is close with 9.8 PPG along with a team-high 3.6 APG and so are Justin Edler-Davis and Taze Moore who each have 9+ PPG this season. Ronne Readus also has 6.2 PPG to match his 6.2 RPG this season. As a team, CSU-Bakersfield is averaging 74.6 PPG on 43.7% shooting from the field, 34.2% from 3-point range and 71.6% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 63.7 PPG on 41.2% shooting from the field and 33.7% from 3-point range this season.
Cal Poly is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record and 9-4-2 ATS in their last 15 road games against a team with a winning home record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. CSU-Bakersfield is 5-16 ATS in their last 21 home games and 16-34-1 ATS in their last 51 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 Friday games.
The points with Cal Poly could be worth a look, but the fact is that the Mustangs just haven’t been good in these major underdog roles, failing to cover both of their games as a double-digit underdog this season and this is also a Mustangs team that barely got by a horrendous San Jose State team just a couple of games ago. CSU-Bakersfield isn’t the first team I think of when I think about laying double-digits, but the Roadrunners have played the tougher schedule, hung in against the tougher teams and have just looked like the better team up to this point. I’ll lay the points with CSU-Bakersfield in this spot.
