South Alabama opened their year with a 3-1 clip before falling to Auburn. After that came three straight victories over William Carey, Southern Miss and Flagler. The Jaguars lost 93-90 to Alabama A&M, then split a pair of games against Georgia Southern.
In Saturday’s 62-49 loss to the Eagles, South Alabama’s Michael Flowers led the team on 18 points with five rebounds and one assist. The only other Jaguars player in double-figures there was John Pettway on 14 points with four rebounds in 40 minutes on the court.
Over on the Coastal Carolina side, they began their year with four straight wins over NC Wesleyan, CIU, NC Central and Greensboro. After a loss to Wofford, the Chanticleers beat Delaware State, Alice Lloyd and Georgia State before falling to Georgia State 70-62.
In the loss to the Panthers, Coastal Carolina’s Devante Jones led the way on 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists. The only other Chanticleers player in double-figures there was Deanthony Tipler with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes of action.
The Chanticleers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Friday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss. The over is 5-2 in Coastal’s last seven Friday games and 6-2 in their last eight after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall and 6-2-2 ATS in their last 10 Friday games. The over is 4-1 in South Alabama’s last five road games and 5-1 in their last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Coastal Carolina in this one. We should have a pretty good matchup on our hands, though. The Jaguars had a nice scoring run going, with 73 or more points in nine straight games, but dropped a 42-point dud against GA Southern in their last game. The Chanticleers notched 78 or more in each of their first eight and had a bad outing versus Georgia State, but i like Coastal to bounce back on a cover here.
